Appleton Education Association (AEA)

The Appleton Education Association (AEA) is a professional organization of over 1,000 members working in the Appleton Area School District to aid and assist its members. We are committed to quality education and work diligently to improve and extend the educational opportunities for both children and adults. We actively promote public education by advancing the ideals, interests, and welfare of all members of the education profession and collaboratively work with other levels of our organization. 

Members of the Appleton Area Education Association are affiliated with the Wisconsin Education Association Council - Fox Valley (WEAC-FV) on the Uniserv (regional level), the Wisconsin Education Association (WEAC) on the state level, and the National Education Association (NEA) on the National Level. 

Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC-FV) represents the public policy, labor and professional interests of its nearly 3,000 members and for the children in the public schools where those members work. The membership includes pre-kindergarten through 12 grade teachers, which includes: regular, special education, resource, English as a Second Language (ESL), and teachers of the talented and gifted (TAG); media specialists, guidance counselors; social workers; school psychologists and audiologists. Secretaries, educational assistants, and building engineers join in advocating the needs of the # students the district services.

The Wisconsin Education Association Council represents the public policy, labor and professional interests of its nearly 80,000 members. WEAC is a strong advocate for its members and for the 800,000 children in public schools. Membership at the state level includes 59,000 teachers, counselors, and library media specialists in public schools; 10,000 educational support personnel-secretaries, teacher aides, bus drives, custodians. 2,800 faculty and support staff in the Wisconsin Technical College System; 750 education and information professionals who are employed by the by the State and work in the Department of Public Instruction, the Technical College System, the State Historical Society, at other State schools and libraries and in State prisons and other institutions ,including the Centers for the Developmentally Disabled; 100 academic staff employees in the University of Wisconsin System: 1,700 university students who are studying to be educators; and 4,400 active retired members.

The National Education Association represents the public policy. labor and professional interests of nearly 2.5 million strong. Members include elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty, educational support personnel, school administrators, retired educators, and college students studying to become teachers. The NEA is America's oldest and largest organization committed to advancing the cause of public education. Founded in 1857 in Philadelphia and now headquartered in Washington, D.C.
