Battle of the Books
Sponsored by WEMA
The statewide Battle of the Books' program is designed to promote a love of reading among our students. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Students are put on teams of up to four readers and the winning team competes other Wisconsin teams over the Internet. The (Wisconsin Educational Media Association) sponsors three divisions.
Reading Rockets
  Reading Rockets is a national multimedia project that looks at how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help them. Click on the link to the left to learn more.
World of Reading
  World of Reading is an open collection of book reviews written by students for students. Readers can view by title, subject, or the town where the reviewer of the book lives.
Parenting Education Sites:
  Appleton has "Great Schools" learn about policies; utilize many online databases and educational links; check out programs and departments; meet the school board, and read the board meeting minutes; visit our "Great Schools" and see what we are doing to prepare our students for the future.

  NAGC (National Association for Gifted Children) is a non-profit organization of parents, teachers, educators, other professionals and community leaders who unite to address the unique needs of children and youth with demonstrated gifts and talents as well as those children who may be able to develop their talent potential with appropriate educational experiences. 
  Research supports parent involvement in education does make a difference. The NEA (National Education Association) in joint project with the National PTA have published four guides on assisting parents at home on such topics as home work, and student achievement and more. 
National PTA
  National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. A not-for-profit association of parents, educators, students, and other citizens active in their schools and communities, PTA is a leader in reminding our nation of its obligations to children.

Parents' Choice Foundation
